Mansio

Mansion, manson or manor, derives from Latin word mansiō , which means very large dwelling house.  It is usually over 8,000 square feet (740 m2).  A traditional European mansion will usually has a ballroom whereas in Scotland it is originally defined as property large enough for the Minister.  Read more about the definition of the mansion from Wikipedia.
Today, mansion simply means a very LARGE house.
